The Silk Road was a route traveled by merchants from all over Asia and Europe, one of the more famous being Marco Polo. The Silk Road's name comes from the large amount of chinese silk carried along it. There were many interesting facts that you could learn about it. Like that it was 4,000 miles long, or that China was the first place to make silk and gaurded the secrets to their process. In AD 500, though, the western countries learned how.
